This Doesn’t Define Me is a nonprofit led by young people, supporting transgender, immigrant, and other marginalized young adults ages 18 and older across the Southeastern United States, with an emphasis on rural communities.
Founded by Bella Bautista following her own experience with PTSD, TDDM grew from a belief that no diagnosis, identity, or difficult chapter should determine someone’s future. Our work brings together practical assistance, education, and community organizing to help people access support and build a greater sense of possibility.
Through our programs and community partnerships, we provide resources such as HIV self-test kits, affirming garments, hygiene supplies, and emergency financial assistance. We support young adults navigating housing and employment insecurity while advocating for greater access to mental health care and substance use treatment and recovery services.
We also believe that the people closest to a community’s challenges should have opportunities to lead. Through culturally relevant organizing and mentorship, we connect with young adults, nurture their ambitions, and help them develop the skills and relationships to make a difference where they live.
Our name reflects the belief at the heart of our work: your circumstances are part of your story, but they do not set the limits of your future.
